What it was like Dressing Miz Cracker from Rupaul’s Drag Race

Nelson Tavarez

It was a cold winter evening in Washington Heights, Manhattan when I first met  Miz Cracker. She came into my studio/living room/Mom’s room/sewing room, the place where I had been working out of.  I was inmidiatly star struck; she wasn’t even famous outside the New York Drag scene, nor had I seen her act at all; but the way she came into my building in full drag on a weekday,  made me understand that I was in the presence of someone whom would go very far.

Miz Cracker never mentioned why she wanted the dresses for,  and We didn’t  have any idea that she was cast in Rupaul’s drag race season 10.   All we wanted was to make the best work possible for her to perform in, but also for us is  important  to work with different visual artist and create unique works of arts. And with Miz Cracker; we are so happy to be able to create these amazing looks that forever will be in our wall of happy projects. And the bonus; to find out later that the garments we made for her would be highlighted everywhere from the national TV show, to PAPER Magazine, Billboards, among other publications.

Miz Cracker was an absolute dream to work with, she has the heart and soul of a winner and the master tongue to support her all the way through any challenge in real life.

We love you Miz Cracker.

Did Google and Ivyrevel just killed fashion?

Nelson Tavarez

So Google and H&M who is parent company of Ivyrevel just launch the dreadful application that will make even more damage to the already cluttered fashion industry. Many designers for years never took the time to think about their client or women they were dressing. Mostly it was a fantasy of males point of views with a few exceptions.   But all through out you could see the art inspiring fashion and viceversa, but I would like to question the role of a artist in fashion.

For some the cloths that cover their bodies is not important but for many it represents the them in great detail. Fashion is a point of reference for self, for when you connect a memory to an outfit your emotions are touched in a deeper level.   Though you would not be aware of that because most just want to try to be someone they are not and therefore what is there to remember.

I hope I can be a fashion designer for a long time but with more technology coming up and redefining my vision don't know how Is that going to happen.  My hope is that this doesn't take off and that more people buy my designs.

In the landscape of Fashion; made to order helps new talent survive.

Nelson Tavarez

It very satisfying to see a client wear a piece you conceived. It doesn't matter if that client is a friend or a new customer, we feel the same kind of love a mother feels when se sees her child graduate. Here we have an amazing  friend and Top Dominican Model Rosa Gough wearing an exclusively made for her trip to Manila, Philippines.
